Illumination by two diffusers...

As you can see, the diffuseres are simply glass from a broken bulb.

50/50 beamsplitter from Edmund is nice to have.

Note the black painted master glass in the plate holder - The beamsplitter divides the illumination beam into two parts before diffusion.

The laser source - note the old voltmeter serving as an electronic shutter. In fact, the electronic shutter is connected to the PC printer port in order to get exact exposure times.
