Back to Holography in Norway
The Chess King
Over a weekend in January 2003 I made a master and open aperture, image plane transmission hologram of a very old and valuable chess king from the 11th century. The chess king was found on the Norwegian shore line. The Coast museum asked me to make a hologramof the Chess King, and I was both proud and happy to do the job. My good friend Ronny helped me with quality assurance of the setup.
H1 (split beam) was made with a overhead reference beam on 8e75 and transferred to a monochromatic, image plane open aperture transmission hologram. Have a look at the pictures from this session below.

Above: Jørgen is placing the King on the base made by Sara Åsly.
Above: I promise - I never touched the King at all. Jørgen did not allow anybody to put the King at risk.
After exposing, the King was put safely back into the double box.

The finished H2. The framing and display will be made by the museum. The image is very bright and difficult to photograph due to its brightness.
